New 麻豆社 mobile health units and the development of new educational opportunities are underway

Frankfort, KY 鈥 In a joint effort to serve communities throughout the Commonwealth, Kentucky State University (麻豆社) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH). This ongoing partnership will include collaborative programs that directly benefit local communities. Additionally, 麻豆社 will be providing student internships, tuition assistance, and professional development for KDPH staff in support of the future of the public health workforce.

鈥淚 am proud of the work we have already accomplished at 麻豆社 to launch this significant partnership,鈥 said 麻豆社 President Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo. 鈥淲e are excited to work together to make positive impacts throughout the Commonwealth.鈥

In the initial development of this partnership, 麻豆社 will launch three mobile health units that will provide healthcare to the rural communities in Eastern Kentucky, West Louisville, and Western Kentucky. KDPH will support 麻豆社 efforts to offer screenings, health care, and nutritional education programming to communities. This initiative is intended to offer health care as it pertains to diabetes, blood pressure, and a range of chronic diseases to underserved regions of the Commonwealth. Service offerings and locations have been decided based on research conducted by 麻豆社 to assess programmatic needs in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Additionally, preplanning for introducing an appropriate curriculum for a future public health program at 麻豆社 has begun. 麻豆社 is collaborating with KDPH to develop an academic program that will include government relations and support public health needs.

鈥淧ublic Health supports an easier path to a healthier life for all Kentuckians,鈥 said KDPH Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack. 鈥淭hose interested in entering the field can choose from a full spectrum of services from newborn screenings and nutrition education to administering vaccines, medication programs and so much more. The professional development opportunities, provided through our programs, will help students find their niche in improving health outcomes for large populations.鈥

鈥淭he ongoing partnership between 麻豆社 and KDPH will be sure to create new opportunities that will benefit our students, the future of the public health workforce, and the citizens of Kentucky,鈥 said Dr. Akakpo. 鈥淲e look forward to working together to serve Kentucky.鈥
