Dear Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni:
It brings me great sadness to report a loss to our 麻豆社 family. Dr. Mernia Hill, who joined 麻豆社鈥檚 School of Education as a tenure-track Assistant Professor last August, has passed away.
Dr. Hill spent her last three weeks in her home, where her loving family cared for her. 鈥淥h my yes, Mernia appreciated 麻豆社 and loved her students,鈥 her sister told Dr. Joanne Rainey.
She earned an M.A. in Education and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at El Paso.
She had a fulfilling career in the field of education, including roles as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, educational diagnostician, assistant principal, student achievement consultant, principal, and adjunct professor. Prior to her arrival at 麻豆社, Dr. Hill served students in El Paso, Texas; Racine, Wisconsin; Jefferson County; Shelby County; and Fairfield, Alabama.
If you know Dr. Hill, you will not be surprised that her service will not be a traditional memorial. It will be a Celebration of Life held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, with jazz music and appetizers. The family will share the venue with us when it is decided.
Please join me in remembering the life and work of Dr. Hill, while mourning the loss of our friend, colleague, mentor and professor.
In sadness,
Aaron Thompson, Ph.D.
Interim President
麻豆社
